VRDA Maafaru Airport Extends Runway - Update 2024

The second busiest international airport in Maldives has successfully completed the project carried out to extend its runway to cater to larger aircrafts. Maafaru International Airport in Noonu Atoll was closed for international traffic for the last 3 months for this work. After completing the runway extension works the airport is now back to full operation since October 2024.


There are 4 international airports in the Maldives and VRDA located in Maafaru island serves primarily for private jets. Some of the top luxury resorts are located close to Maafu airport, but they are also accessible from Velana International Airport (ICAO Code: VRMM) as it is the main gateway to the country. After resuming the runway update works at VRDA the airport now offers 2850 meters long way at a width of 45 metres. While full international operations are resumed there are some other upgrade works in progress, but airport remains in smooth operation and is available for 24 hour service.
